SHREWSBURY - During the week of October 24 – 30, Massachusetts libraries and their users will help make a difference to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Joining this statewide effort, Shrewsbury Public Library will suspend collection of overdue fines that week and instead accept monetary contributions towards hurricane relief. Shrewsbury Library will send these funds directly to the American Library Association Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund. Libraries serve as a cornerstone for a community, providing support and resources for everyone. Since libraries in the Gulf Coast region have been damaged and destroyed, this fund was established to help rebuild these vital cornerstones of community. All funds will go to supporting the library relief efforts in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Please consider making a contribution to this important cause. This project is sponsored by the Shrewsbury Public Library in collaboration
with the Massachusetts Library Association and the Massachusetts School
Library Media Association. For further information, please call the Library
at 508-842-0081.

Public
Library and Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) are pleased
to announce the installation of a wireless network at the Shrewsbury Public
Library.
SELCO has provided the equipment and Internet connection free of charge to the Library for the use of library patrons with wireless-equipped laptops and portable devices. “We are very excited to be able to offer this service to our patrons. We are grateful for the support of SELCO in this endeavor to provide our patrons with an increased level of service,” says Betsy Rajotte, Electronic Resources Librarian at the Library. SELCO is also partnering with the Library in a series of computer classes
held at the Library this fall. Library Director Ellen Dolan adds: “We
appreciate that SELCO has stepped in to provide support for improving
technology resources at the library once again. I know library patrons
will be happy to hear of the new ‘hot spot’ access and the
additional computer classes. It’s great to see that a cooperative
effort will provide improved resources for our community.”
Due to budget cuts this fiscal, the number of Sundays we would have been able to open to the public was greatly reduced. Local tax dollars funded six Sundays, and the Board of Trustees approved use of Library Trust funds to cover the expenses of an additional nine Sundays. This would have allowed the library to be open Sundays from October 2, 2005 through January 22, 2006. Hoping to extend the schedule of Sunday service, the Board of Trustees appealed to area businesses for sponsorship of additional Sundays. The response has been excellent. Below is a list business sponsors who will host additional Sundays this season THANK YOU TO OUR MANY DONORS FOR RESTORING A FULL SEASON OF SUNDAY HOURS BUSINESS SPONSOR SUNDAY FUNDED
